Got my very own signed copy of "By Invitation Only!"
This past Tuesday, I had the pleasure of hearing Founder and Chief Merchandising Officer of Gilt Groupe Alexandra Wilson come speak at the Grand Hyatt as a part of the Seattle Chamber’s Legends and Leaders series.

She spoke to the entrepreneurial and digital spirit of the attendees – explaining Gilt Groupe’s development process from its startup stage to “Gilt Today." Gilt Groupe is a highly-coveted, luxury e-commerce retailer.. but it's beyond retail, too. It sells a lifestyle - it makes the "rich & famous" life possible, yet still exclusive for those socialites with it's "invitation only" and short-time sales.

At the event, Wilson also spoke about her book with Co-Founder Alexis Maybank, “By Invitation Only.” Copies of the new book were available for signing after her presentation.

Here are some fun facts and highlights that I picked up/tweeted:

Zac Posen was the first designer to work with Gilt Groupe.

The first purchase was made within 7 minutes of the website's launch.

There is no algorithm for the time that Gilt Groupe holds their sales.
One coast celebrates lunch at noon, the other wakes up at nine to a morning treat.

More than 22 Gilt Groupe sale events happen per day.

Gilt Groupe sends more 3,000 emails per day, based on personal preference and cross-channel shopping.

Today's focus for Gilt Groupe is (1) more personalization and (2) mobile.

More than 30% of Gilt Groupe sales on weekends and holidays come from mobile during the weekday, 20%.

Gilt Groupe thrives on gamification.
It's a race to see who will purchase that ___ first!

The secret to getting brands to coexist on Gilt Groupe is the "By Invitation Only" hook.

Early adopters of Gilt Groupe were in their early twenties to mid-thirties.

Reasons why I love Gilt Groupe:

My favorite designers have been featured on the site including Kate Spade, Miu Miu, Tory Burch, Vince Camuto and Stuart Weitzman.

It's simple and easy to use.

I love the emails - it's a little pick-me-up at work!

The "By Invitation Only" is a great concept and persuasive hook for consumers. A symbol of exclusivity that caters well to its targeted audience.

Overall, I had a fabulous time at the Gilt Groupe/Seattle Chamber event and met great people at the luncheon. Alex was a gem - inspiring, funny and insightful. I hope to meet more women like her at future Chamber events.

Looking forward to reading the book this weekend!
