the lion fountain in the alpha theta courtyard
Happy Founders' Day, sisters!

May 15, 2011 -- Today marks 160 years of sisterhood for the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. On this very day in 1851, Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald founded the Adelphean Society - now known as Alpha Delta Pi.

First. Finest. Forever. Since 1851.
Me & the Rooms - AKG

Each sister across the nation - no matter the chapter or college is paying her respects and love to our dearest founder, Eugenia. Without her and her fellow sisters, we wouldn't have the close-knit, strong sisterhood that stands today.

The prestige, sacred ritual and honorable traditions that we uphold as sisters are forever engraved in our hearts when we pledged ourselves to the white and blue during Initiation.

On this very special day, we reflect on what Alpha Delta Pi means to us and how our chapter and sisters play such significant roles in our lives -- We live for each other.

My Great-Grand Big, Kelly, & Me!

On a spring morning in 1851, the soft hazy light of May dawn cast shadows through the shutters. The six o'clock bell had just rung as Eugenia Tucker lighted her bedside candle. The misty pink rays of the sunrise promised that May 15 would be a beautiful today. 'For today, at Wesleyan College, the first college for women, we have founded the society which we have been planning for so long, The Adelphean Society.'"

- Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald from "Sisters"

Alpha Delta Pi is not just four years -- it's for a lifetime. The alumnae whom I met today are a pure testament.

Erica and Me -- love seeing alumnae!
For those of you who can't tell... I'm sorta.kinda.maybe. really obsessed with my chapter, my sisters, the international organization -- anything ADPi. Let me "throw the D" (throwing the diamond) for ya everyday errday and shake my secret handy-do with any fellow ADPi sister, and that'll put a big smile on my face.

<> Miss Katie B. and me <>

"The society shall be called Adelphean, and shall have for its object the mental, moral social and domestic improvement of its members." -- May 15, 1851 diary entry of Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald

International Officer, Mrs. Rosalyn Williams
Of course, I had to end this entry with a picture of International Officer and Grand Council member Mrs. Rosalyn Williams and me. She has a very special place in my heart -- I get teary-eyed/cry everytime she shares her ADPi journey stories with the chapter. Her dedication and efforts to Alpha Delta Pi on international level and at Alpha Theta inspired me to be more involved and apply for the internship at Executive Office. She told me to sit in her chair when I go to Atlanta this summer:

"When you get up to the Grand Council room, you'll see a chair at the head of the table. That's where President Claire Brown Gwaltney sits (bless her heart, i heart CBG) and then to the left of her chair near the door to the kitchen... that's where I sit. Will you sit in my chair, take picture and send it to me? I hope you feel inspired..."

YES. I will definitely sit in your chair, Mrs. Williams -- and yes, I am 110% inspired by you. I am so excited to explore and venture all throughout Memorial HQ this summer. Countin' down the days 'til I get to fully immerse myself in ADPi-Land.

Dearest sisters, hope you all are having a fabulous Founders' Day! OBIC <>

Beyond the cut-out flowers, chocolate covered marshmallow bunnies, tie-dyed eggs and Peeps (oh em gee, how I'm addicted to these little fluffy sugary chicks), Easter, most importantly, is the day of the Lord.

Yes, He has risen!

Happy Easter to my dearest friends, family,
and sweet sisters of Alpha Delta Pi!

It's official...
I bought my tickets this morning.

Georgia, I'm coming your way this June!

On June 7, 2011 at the break of dawn, one carry-on + a large suitcase + the Longchamp + myself are hoppin' on the plane. We're officially jet-settin' off down South 'cross the Mason-Dixon. Then, it's just a short stop in Denver for a half an hour and straight-floating on fluffy clouds to ATL where I'll be staying for 6 weeks at Memorial Headquarters!

Here's a little shout-out to my EO sisters: Ladies, get ready for an uh-MAZing time... we'd be rockin' the ultimate ADPi mansion! Miss Haley, Courtney, Michelle, Megan, Jessica, Diana and Brittany -- I love you already and can't wait to meet y'all down South. (Dontcha like it? I'm practicin' my Southern accent... chyeah right, like I can pull that one off haha imma leave the real Southern accents to Haley) Already have spoken to Sarah about going to a Braves game, I hope the rest of you join us, too! Also, Haley and I are determined to shop 'til we drop in downtown ATL... so best be ready!

Cannot express all of my excitement and joy -          i can't wait.

The title of this post is from Kid Cudi's "Up, Up N' Away." Give it a listen -- it's one of my favs. imma leave you with a couple of words from the speech that is said at the very closing part of the song:

The end is never the end.

darn straight, Kid Cudi... this won't be the end... because it's First. Finest. Forever

Starin' out into the world unknown -- questioning:
what else is there and when is it enough?

Last night, was just one of those nights... Katie B. and Miss AKG heard me vent my frustration, stresses and fears, basically an accumulation of all the "blahs" and ridiculous things my mind fills up with -- one minute I was laughing; then next, I was an ultimate and complete hot mess

So why have I now officially been dubbed the "fountain of tears?"

Disappointment. stress. frustration. disrespect. rumors. gossip. the fear of graduating early and leaving my beloved sweet Alpha Dees. the fact that I have put all of my effort, time and energy into a chapter and that in one blink of an eye -- my youth and college years will pass by ever so quickly.

As a result, I have found myself, more than ever, turning to God and taking long runs. I don't want to confront the issues now, so I just keep on running -- thinking that it will all go away for that hour and that when I return, it will solve itself. Not necessarily true though because it will come back  and stare right into your face; then asks you, "Really.... you think you can run and hide? Poor child, don't be so naive."

"Fear not, I am with you; be not dismayed; I am your God. I will strengthen you, and help you, and uphold you with my right hand of justice... For I am the Lord, your God, who grasp your right hand; It is I who say to you, 'Fear not, I will help you.'" Isaiah 41:10, 13
Hold my hand, God, and help me find my path... because honestly, in times like these.. I just wanna curl in a ball and hug my little alphie lion and cry into the pillow that my dearest Big Diamond Sis sewed for me. - Hence, the name "fountain of tears" is most appropriate for these past few weeks.

But hey you know what? God gives me hope. So I know that it'll all work out in the end. His plans for you and me... well, it's a bit of a mystery but a good one at the very least. So I shall not be too worried... or at least try not to worry.

For now, Imma try dryin' my tears -- I'm prayin' for a hot sun to evaporate these little puddles and the bags under m' eyes to de-puff. Looking forward to truly livin' these next 9 weeks with my sweet Alpha Dees, spending a fabulous time with my EO sisters in June/July and celebrating my last 10 weeks of fall quarter with the best friends any girl could dream for, and no, Miss AKG I'm not getting mixed up between "best," "close," "just friends" and acquaintances.... these women are the best - and the few that I have grown very close and fond of -- those are the true gems

I love the pin you let me wear...

poem by a tumblr i stumbled upon this morning...
The Greek That’s Written There
It makes little difference

The size of your pin

Whether it’s large or small,
And if it’s plain
Or brilliant with jewels
Is of no concern at all
But the vows that you took
Along with your pin,
Have you worn them constantly?
Quietly, deep in the heart
Where no one looks to see?
Have you touched the stars
And reached for once
In your own small piece of sky?
Have you striven for the honorable,
The beautiful, and the high?
What difference then
The shape of the badge,
Be it diamond or quill or square?
The important thing is
How much do you love
The pin you chose to wear?

Keeps Georgia on My Mind...

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Georgia... can't you come sooner?
Less than 3 months until I'll be jet-setting across the States to Dixieland or as Ashlyn, Anna Kate and Emily may say... to the best part of the country -- the land of Southern grace, Gents and sweet tea.

Leaving the Pacific NW, I'm trading my Hunter wellies for a pair of Jack Rogers and my North Face for some Lilly... I'm totes in for a Southern-Belle makeover. Sundresses and big hats: let's go!

Fellow EO sisters... take me shopping downtown Atlanta,
puh-leeze!

Together, us eight sisters, from across the country will be spending six sweet weeks in Atlanta, GA and having the time of our lives, living at Memorial Headquarter on Ponce de Leon Ave... the ultimate ADPi mansion, or as EO Sister Haley calls it, "the diamond studded srat castle." Chyeah... Imma live it up this June, and my little heart is already going pitter patter as I wait in anticipation for my departure.
I just gotta get through this Spring Quarter. Eeek!

Ladies, I'm startin' this countdown.... now...

Atlanta, here I come!

Yes, Ashlyn, I stole borrowed this from your blog... it was too pretty of a picture.
When I arrive at Memorial HQ, I'll take my own pic. bahaha

Memorial Headquarters - Alpha Delta Pi - Ponce de Leon - I'm coming your way this June 2011...

Can you believe it? I'll be living there for 6 weeks! Eeek... I'm so lucky!
<> Can't wait to meet my new EO sisters <>

I have no words to describe how thrilled  ecstatic HAPPY overjoyed I am to be given such a wonderful opportunity to work with Executive Office this summer (June 8th/ish through July 15th). This past Saturday, I was just sitting at Starbucks attempting to write a paper and fill out the Chapter Awards packet. But in actuality, I was chit-chattin' for a bit with Miss Anna Kate, a sweet Zeta Iota sister. Then all of a sudden, T. Swift's "Sparks Fly" started blaring from my phone... I looked at the number and the area code was very similar to EO's office number in Georgia. Picked up the phone, and the next couple of minutes happened so quickly, I didn't even realize what was happening.. Filled with so much joy and emotion, I squealed like a little girl at Starbucks when I heard Executive Director Mrs. Ablard's voice congratulating me on my acceptance to be an
Executive Office Intern!

People around me probs though I was one huge freak for being all giddy and doing a little victory dance in my seat. (bahaha) When she said I had to keep it hush-hush until Monday, my stomach was going to explode. "Only tell those who are close to you," she said... Gahhh, so difficult to keep such a promise, but "Mum's the word" until NOW

The picture below completely sums up my mindset when I heard I was going to Atlanta.  My Immediate Reaction: (of course, I would never say that out loud... kept my cool)
I can also hear Ashlyn saying this too,
with her cute lil' accent all the way from Drake University...

I'm still in shock... I can't believe it.
Flying across the country by myself
from the chill, hippie Pacific NW to the classic, land of the South.

Lord knows, I'm stoked.
I'd be wearing my pearls all day long...

My Sweet Alpha Dee's... I am beyond ecstatic. I can't wait to learn, breathe and truly live ADPi... then bring it all back to you, my Alpha Thetas.

Things I'm looking forward to:

  • Being + Living at Memorial Headquarters! It's like an ADPi sleepover errday everyday for 6 weeks. Maybe I'll get to have a pajama jam with CBG - one could only hope...
  • Going to E.T. Fitzergerald's grave - Macon, GA - Wesleyan College - I gotta pay tribute to the ultimate head honcho of our International Organization- our Founder.
  • Making new friends and bonding with amazing EO sisters; so excited to meet all of you ladies <> Haley: Ashlyn's told me so much about you. Apparently we're ADPi twins? Looking forward to hanging out and venturing 'round Georgia with you.
  • Finally, I get to meet Miss Anna Kate -- ahh so excited! Girl, we best be having a lunch date that includes sweet tea (extra sweetened) and some delicious southern comfort food. Please take me on a shopping extravaganza; I'm in dire need of some Lilly in my closet.
  • Learning what my projects for the summer are - hopefully, it includes the ADPi Foundation - doing public relations (community outreach, media relations, and dabblin' a bit with branding) for Expansion and Violet Circle Membership - real, hands-on PR experience... YES!
  •  ATLANTA, GA - need I say more? There will be tons of excursions into town... and plenty of shopping, duh - that's.a.given.
  •  Ashlyn, come visit me, puh-leeze! I'd love to see your beautiful face.
  • I'm excited to get all touristy and take tons of pictures wherever I go in Atl. I'll probably accumulate 1000+ pics at the end of my trip and at least 20+ videos.
  • My first time at an Atlanta Braves game. It's a must. My sweet EO sisters, I'm dragging you with me whether you like baseball or not - no worries, I don't really understand the game entirely - it's not really a Seattle thing. bahaha
  • SOUTHERN FOOD - I'm already addicted to sweet tea, chicken fried steak and biscuits & gravy... what's next on the plate?
delicious -photo courtesy of some tumblr...
  • Oh, can we please go to a "University of XYZ" and see another ADPi chapter? I'm in love with seeing other ADPi houses - I think it's an inner 'I wanna be an LC' side of me.
  • Me and my tendencies to over-prepare for anything has gotten me looking at CitySearch-Atlanta, GA ... I spy with my little eyes that Little Five Points is a fun hippie, eclectic neighborhood. Shopping in Lenox Square - yes every other bullet point includes shopping. (If you hadn't known by now, then you don't know me well at all.) Also, it looks like there's a cute little restaurant, Farm Burger, right on Ponce de Leon - can we go try it? It looks yummy. Oh, and I looked at the "neighborhood" section of Atlanta on Citysearch... have no idea what category EO fits under. Ponce de Leon, where are you on here? I must find you so I can look up more/other places to satisfy my tummy. No, but seriously...
  • As cheesy as it sounds, I want to eat a peach. Georgia's known for its peaches. I love peaches. Henceforth - we're gettin' me a peach. mk? thanks.
  • Flirting with adventure and celebrating my summer with good folks in the South - the Peach State - "Yes, Ma'am," the land of Sweet Tea, Southern Belles + Southern gents, Sperry's and a place where they all will accept my taste in fashion which primarily consists of tennis skirts, pearls and penny loafers - the Pacific NW just doesn't get it.  It's how I was raised in Scottsdale... oh how I love my preppy J. Crew

you reap what you sow.

After 9 months of preparation, countless all-nighters, and intensive workshops,
J and I did it. The hard work truly paid off. My love - my joy - the crazy part of me that is still obsessed - my second self - has now been rewarded.

I came into the Greek Awards Banquet wanting it - that was all I cared about. Now, it sits in the Maxine Blake library in all of its glory.

In addition to Recruitment programming, we also received Excellence in Environmental Awareness, Excellence in New Member Programming, and Most Improved Chapter. As well, Alpha Theta was a finalist in over half of all the categories. Truly proud to be an ADPi <>

The quote above is from Fraternal Thoughts, a blog that expresses the positive leadership, service and values of being a part of the Greek Community. Today's main message is to appreciate the people around you. Besides my family (my dearest Mama Nguyen) I have my Alpha Theta sisters whom I cherish for their presence in my life has been life-changing.

I know I've said it many times (and referenced in my other entries - check out "You've Got the Love" and "Stylish Who  Me") but, I guess I can't say it enough...

Hoedown Throwdown.
zig zag, step, side

shake it out, head to toe
throw it all together, that's how we roll...

Where: McCabes in Everett, WA
When: Thursday February 24, 2011
What: ADPi Winter Dance -- Hoedown Throwdown

Our creative and talented Director of Social Enrichment, Miss Sophie, is one who many considers the ultimate Rodeo Queen -- big red hair, a dazzling smile and a soft spot for country music and good 'ole Southern gentleman. This Thursday is one of her biggest events of the quarter - our winter dance.

Saddlin' it up on a huge party bus, ADPis and their dates will be ridin' into the night to McCabes, known as Everett's best nightclub and night saloon. The owner of this country bar, resembling Stella from "Sweet Home Alabama," is eager to have the sorority chapter and their dates at her venue; she even has some fun activities planned including two-steppin' and line dancing.

Outfits for the night are ranging from cut-off overalls, red bandanas, flannel and rugged boots to a sweet southern, ruffle dress and gerber daisies for soft, wavy T. Swift curls.

"i love my alpha dees..."
- Ashlyn Stallings, Leadership Consultant

This past weekend I flew down to Irvine, CA with some of my ADPi sisters to the District VI Leadership Conference held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

first.thoughts. sunny warm rays of sunshine
i heart Cali.

When we first arrived it was almost 11:00 pm so needless to say, I didn't really get to say hello to beautiful weather until this morning when the sun peeked through the curtains at 7 am.

Day 1:

Dressed in my Starbucks-inspired shirt (pictured below - modeled by Megan and Kashia), my Minnie Twill pants from J. Crew, little black pumps and a hand-made coffee cup nametag, I was all set to start off my DLC weekend of my pi love, sisterhood and everything adpi.

Megan & Kashia!
That's when I heard it....

ALPHAAAAAA.... Alpha..

Boom boom uh huh.. Boom oh yeah.. boom boom boom. boom... Hottie tottie, gosh almighty.. who the heck am I? Bim Bam, by damn, I'm an ADPi!!!!

<> Spirit chants <>

it was music to my ears.

I love LOVE Love my ADPi...

Loved every moment of it... It reminded me a bit of cheer camp back in the good 'ole days of Jesuit High School when I repped the Green and Gold. Keep 'em coming.. "I wanna see more" was all I could think/say.

lookie who we have here! FRC & RVP. i heart recruitment.

But anyways back to DLC ... this past weekend made me reflect on my ADPi journey-- which pretty much strengthened my love for our international organization and the sisterhood I found at my chapter, Alpha Theta.

Sisterhood is something that is unexplainable. Why do I love it?
Well, that's really hard to put into words.

I love the ritual -- the history, the story of our founder Eugenia Tucker Fitzgerald running to the secret spot with her blue and white ribbons -- my beautiful diamond badge pin -- I squeal, all giddy inside, when I see lions -- I want violets intertwined in the centerpieces of my wedding reception for my adpi sisters -- the traditions and ideal that my sisters uphold -- "I Believe in Alpha Delta Pi..." the Creed -- the amazing alumnae who inspire me to be a better sister -- give me your hand and we'll do the secret handy-do because i'm obsessed with secret ritual stuff like that-- I'll serenade you with Remember Your Alpha Delt Girl  -- Door chants -- It's the love I've found within my sisters. the heart of alpha delta pi lies within...

Miss Katie B. and Emily - beautiful ladies.
Amazing leaders of Alpha Theta - empower. engage. enlighten.
These ladies are one of the reason why I heart ADPi!
Lucky me -- I got a little fashion shoot with Mrs. Peggy Jones!

Day 2:

Mrs. Peggy B. Jones  inspires me to be a better ADPi. This past weekend, I had the fabulous opportunity to hang out/chit chat with one of the members of the Board of Trustees for the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation. We're totes on BFF status now... no.big.deal. It began with my Executive Vice President breakout session... I was walking towards the Saddleback room, when I saw her and Mrs. Bogson. They were heading to a table where they were asking collegians and advisors to donate money to the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation. In return for a donation of $18.51 (in honor the of the year we were founded), members would receive a violet dangle and become a part of the Violet Circle.

For those of you who don't know, the Alpha Delta Pi Foundation was established in 1983 to raise funds for scholarships awarded to collegians --both undergrad and graduate, the Abigail Davis Emergency grants for alumnae, education programming at DLCs, Convention and Leadership seminars, and also leadership training for alumnae and collegians.

Well as I walked towards that room, I  recognized her from the conference orientation introductions and immediately introduced myself. We did the secret handy-do and from that moment, I knew there was something special about this new friendship. I was shaking hands with the Mrs. Peggy B. Jones -- Member of the Board of Trustees for the ADPi Foundation -- big time contributor and amazing alumnae who has dedicated over 30 years of service, time and effort to Alpha Delta Pi. 95 year old -- who didn't look a day over 50, this woman was an inspiration. Mrs. Jones was an Alpha Zeta at Southern Methodist University in Texas and she is the definition of Classy & Fabulous. Great style, too!

If I could be one ounce of her when I'm a Pi member... that would be ideal. Her presence at DLC VI really showed me the meaning of First. Finest. Forever.

<> Oh Mrs. Amy Asplund... Throwing the D with the PD <>
Another amazing individual at DLC VI was International Officer, Rosalyn Williams. Serving Alpha Delta Pi as a Grand Council member, she has pretty much dedicated her life to the success of our sisterhood.

Not gonna lie... I got teary-eyed when she spoke about her ADPi journey and announced her retirement from being an International Officer... oh emmm gee.. boy, was it an honor.

oh and you be jealous.. because she lives in Seattle and lovesss ALPHA THETA. That's right, she's less than 10 mins away and we are so lucky can't say that enough. LOVE LOVE love HER.
members of my alpha class (2008) who came to DLC
PRESH.

you see this right here?
this is love.
the heart of alpha delta pi.
Executive Committee 2011-2012

oh gosh ladies... I can't tell you enough how much I love each and everyone of you.
You all inspire me to be a better sister, friend and person with your leadership, service, and commitment to this chapter. Never stop doing what you're doing... and live it up. You all will go amazing places, and I can't wait to see where we all end up in 10+ years.

Always remember that Alpha Delta Pi will always be with you. It's a part of you that you can't erase -- etched on your heart-- intertwined with your soul -- forever embedded in your mind -- it's for a lifetime.

first. finest. forever.

alpha - alpha - alpha, alpha delta pi
like it. love it. listen & i'll tell you why.

Dearest Anna Kate,
Thank you darling for awarding me the Stylish Blogger Award! You inspire me to be a better friend, sister and ADPi. Pi love <>

For those of you who don't know Anna Kate (especially, my fellow ADPi - Alpha Theta sisters who read this.. you should check out her blog -- click here-- and get to know her), she is an inspiration to me.

This story might turn into an awkward cyber-moment, but i.don't.care.... So here.it.goes. Anna Kate and I have never actually physically met. Don't go all "creeper" on me.. it began with a simple recruitment question from an RVP to a former RVP/current President of Zeta Iota chapter... and then the little RVP from Alpha Theta (yours truly) became a tad bit obsessive with the Zeta Iota Facebook Fan Page because she was constantly looking at ADPi stuff online on her spare time during the summer (TMI... haha).

But what started out as a little question soon blossomed into a mini-facebook sisterhood, and we became friends. It was through my interaction with Anna Kate, that I realized the rarity of the true sisterhood Alpha Delta Pi fosters. It doesn't matter the chapter, the state, college, major or where you live in relation to the Mason Dixon line. She and I share the same ritual, wear the same pin, and shake the same handy-do. For that, I automatically LOVE her and look up to her as more than just a friend, but as a sister and an inspiration. -- That's my little ramble about ADPi love <>

"The ties that bind me to my sisters are not wrapped around my wrists; but rather, they are fastened to my heart."
